Bartonella

A genus of tiny gram negative bacilli. The pathogenic species include:

• Bartonella bacilliformis – causing oroya fever
• Bartonella henselae – causing cat scratch disease
• Bartonella quintana – causing trench fever

They are usually transmitted by arthropods.
