Splint placed after septal surgery

A splint is a piece of plastic that is placed adjacent to the septum after septal surgery. It serves the following functions:

1. Serves to support the bridge of the nose during the healing phase
2. Prevents accumulation of blood within the septum (septal hematoma)
3. Prevents the development of adhesions between the lateral wall of nose and the septum

Antibiotic coverage should be given to prevent infections. The patient should come 7-10 days after surgery for removal of the splint.
