  • Congratulations on securing a top rank in AIIMS November 2010! What is the secret of your success?
    • I was able to prepare well during internship period, studied Ashish Gupta and Mudhit Khanna, An element of luck was also involved
  • What was your study strategy?
    • I used to do previous year mcq’s and read the corresponding topic from standard textbooks
  • When did you seriously start preparing for this exam?
    • During 8th semester
  • In your opinion, how much time does a student require for preparing for this exam?
    • Approximately 1.5 years
  • How many hours did you study each day?
    • About 4 hours a day during internship period
  • Did you have a timetable for preparation? Were you able to stick to it?
    • I hand a monthly time table of topics I intended to finish. But most of the time, I was not able to adhere to it
  • Were you able to prepare well during the internship period?
    • During certain posting, there is a shortage of time, otherwise it was OK
  • Did you attend any coaching? Was it useful?
    • Yes, I attended the coaching conducted at Calicut Medical College by the Alumni Association. It played an important part in my success
  • What were the subjects you focused upon?
    • I focused mainly on Anesthesia, Radiology, Hemato oncology, Pharmacology and Community Medicine
  • What books did you read for theory?
    • Anatomy – Notes
    • Physiology – Ganong
    • Biochemistry – Harper
    • Pathology – Robbins
    • Microbiology – Rachana Chaurasia
    • Pharmacology – Sparsh Guptha
    • Forensic medicine – Across
    • Ophthalmology – Parsons

  • What was your plan for the week before the exam?
    • I revised Ashish Guptha and Mudith Khanna
  • What was your strategy for taking the exam?
    • I took the exam in 2 rounds
    • First round – about 2.5 hours – did the easy questions
    • Second round – remaining 30 minutes – tackled the difficult ones – attempted all questions in which I was able to eliminate atleast 2 of the options
  • How many questions did you attempt?
    • 196
  • How many do you think you got correct?
    • 150-160 I guess
  • What is your advice to future aspirants?
    • Read the questions carefully, try to attempt maximum questions
    • The November AIIMS exam usually contains new questions, whereas the one conducted in May usually has more repeat questions
