Papillomacular bundle
- Bundle of nerve fibers (retinal ganglion cells) which carry visual impulses from the macula to the optic nerve
- The word ‘papilla’ here stands for the blind spot – the origin of the optic nerve
Clinical importance:
- Damage to the papillomacular bundle results in impaired central vision (centrocaecal scotoma)
- eg: In tobacco amblyopia, the papillomacular bundle is damaged
