- Recurrent respiratory papillomatosis (also known as laryngeal papillomatosis) is a disease caused by Human Papillomavirus (HPV).
- It is characterised by warty growths in the upper respiratory tract which can cause significant airway obstruction.
- Patients present with hoarseness of voice and breathing difficulty.
- Treatment is by removal of the tumour via surgery / carbon dioxide laser.
- It may be supplemented by intralesional injection of cidofovir in moderate to severe disease.
- Interferon therapy can also be used.
