Causes of exudative pleural effusion are:
  • Neoplasms
  • Pulmonary embolism
  • Infections
  • Collagen vascular disorders
  • GIT disorders – Perforation of esophagus, pancreatitis
  • Others – Yellow nail syndrome, Uremia, Meig’s syndrome, After cardiac surgery / injury, Pericardial disease, Asbestos exposure, Radiation exposure, Chylothorax
