Intillation of fluorescein into the eye
- Fluorescein is a fluorescent dye that is used in ophthalmology for better visualisation of the eye during examination
- It is instilled into the eye using a dropper as shown above and viewed under UV light
- Uses
- visualising corneal abrasions, corneal ulcers
- In schirmer’s test for assessing function of lacrimal drainage system
- Assessing the tear film underneath rigid gas permeable contact lenses
