Lipoprotein lipase

It is an enzyme located in the endothelium of blood vessels of adipose tissue, muscle and heart. It hydrolyses triglycerides present in chylomicrons and VLDL to fatty acids and glycerol. The fatty acids are taken up by adipose tissue for storage and muscle for utilisation in energy production. The glycerol released in taken up by liver for gluconeogenesis and triglyceride synthesis.
