Paraproteinemia – Definition
- Paraproteinemia refers to increased amounts of a singly type of monoclonal gammaglobulins in the blood
- It indicates an underlying immunoproliferative disorder
Types:
- Depending on the type of monoclonal gammaglobulins found in blood, paraproteinemias are of 3 types
- Light chain disease (light chain only present)
- Heavy chain disease (heavy chain only present)
- Full immunoglobulins (light chain : heavy chain ratio may vary)
